Vice President censures lawsuit against Electoral Tribunal

On 23 June 2012, Vice President Juan Carlos Varela called on President Ricardo Martinelli to withdraw the lawsuit the Democratic Change (CD) party filed against the judges of the Electoral Tribunal (TE). Varela, chairman of the opposition Panamanian Party, argued that President Martinelli cannot act as President and legal representative of CD, while serving as President of the Republic. Varela is chairman of the opposition Panamanian Party.
