Terrorists attack pipeline, contaminate local rivers

On 4 January 2013, oil company Ecopetrol announced that a terrorist attack on the Cano Limon-Covenas pipeline on 3 January 2013 caused severe environmental damage and alerted authorities in Norte de Santander, Boyaca and Arauca provinces to possible river contamination. The attack took place in the town of Toledo, Norte de Santander province. Both FARC and ELN are present in the area, but authorities have been unable to identify the authors of the attack.
