On 7 May 2012, security forces captured seven suspected FARC members in the northeast province of Sucumbios along the Colombian border, including Wilson Tapiero Tique, believed to be responsible for the finances of the FARC's Southern Bloc and logistics for the 48th Front. The capture came after more than a year of joint work between Colombian and Ecuadoran intelligence agencies, and just two weeks after President Rafael Correa promised to eliminate the FARC’s presence in his country.
