Retired military officials investigated in alleged coup plot

On 29 May 2012, authorities opened an investigation against two retired military officials, General Eduardo Santos Quiñones and Major Jorge Galvis Noyes, after uncovering a series of emails mentioning the overthrow of President Juan Manuel Santos. Prosecutor General Eduardo Montealegre announced the formation of a commission to investigate and ultimately determine whether criminal misconduct occurred.
