President warns of possible increases in FARC attacks

On 16 June 2012 President Juan Manuel Santos warned of a possible increase in attacks by the FARC in response to a military offensive against the rebels. According to the President, the permanent presence of the armed forces in areas traditionally controlled by the FARC has generated despair within the rebel ranks. Santos reiterated that despite the guerilla counter attacks, the armed forces would continue targeted operations in that region.
