On 16 May 2012, President Dilma Rousseff instituted a Truth Commission to investigate human rights abuses during the military dictatorships from 1964 to 1985. São Paulo Senate leader Eduardo Braga argued that the Truth Commission should question both military officials and the contemporary leftist militant movements.
