President Humala announces environmental plans for mining industry

On 19 June 2012, President Ollanta Humala flew to Rio to attend the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable development. Humala made a brief speech on 20 June 2012 before the conference’s plenary council, during which he revealed plans to bolster and modernize the Environment Ministry and to change the country’s relationship with the mining industry.
