President Fernández commemorates 30th anniversary of Falkland Islands War
On 2 April, 2012, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner gave a speech marking the 30th anniversary of the Falkland Islands War and proclaimed that it is a shame that colonialism continues today. Fernández de Kirchner further called on the U.K. to demilitarize
the South Atlantic and asked them once again to participate in a dialogue with Argentina on the topic of sovereignty for the Falkland Islands, or Islas Malvinas as they are known in Argentina. Several members of the militant leftist organization Quebracho
marked the anniversary by protesting at the British Embassy in Buenos Aires, where they clashed with police, leaving several injured.
