Officials reveal yearly economic growth rate

On 27 December 2012, Finance and Planning Minister Jorge Giordani, Central Bank of Venezuela President Nelson Merentes, and National Statistics Institute President Elias Eljuri announced that the national economy grew by 5.5 percent in 2012. The growth was attributed to a 15.8 percent increase in public spending over 2011.
