New legislation to increase border inspection capabilities

On 7 June 2012, congressional representatives from different political parties approved a reform to the Customs Simplification law, charging a fee of US$18 each time a vehicle transporting merchandise enters or leaves the country. The funds will be used to finance technological improvements in the new inspection system, designed to permit better control over drug and arms trafficking in the country.
