02-Aug-2012

On 26 July 2012, a Navy patrol boat sunk a Peruvian vessel carrying narcotics off the coast of Arica. The episode resulted in an exchange of gunfire, which left one Peruvian citizen injured and the other crew members under the Navy’s custody. The drug shipment originated in Peru and was to be offloaded in Caleta Vitor, a small fishing village 70 km from Arica on the northern coast.
