Maduro to miss Mercosur summit

On 6 December 2012, various foreign ministers began the preparatory meeting for the Common Market of the South (Mercosur) Summit to be held next 14 December 2012 in Brasília. Venezuela will be represented by Verónica Guerrero, Deputy Minister for Latin America and the Caribbean, rather than Vice President and Foreign Minister Nicolás Maduro. Brazilian Foreign Ministry sources consulted by Efe claimed to not know the reasons for Maduro’s absence.
