IATA suspends national airline Aerosur

On 24 April 2012, the International Aviation Transportation Association (IATA) suspended Bolivian airline Aerosur for defaulting on payments owed, barring all travel agencies from issuing Aerosur tickets to clients. The government retained 100 percent of Aerosur’s profits despite the requests of Aerosur employees and legal advisor Sergio Asbún to reduce government retention to 25 percent to facilitate the airline’s financial recovery.
