Government to reach maritime accord with Colombia

On 7 June 2012, the government announced that it will sign an agreement regarding maritime limits with the government of Colombia on 13 June 2012 at a naval outpost along the northeast border in San Lorenzo, Esmeraldas. In December 2011, President Rafael Correa and his Colombian counterpart, Juan Manuel Santos, announced that while there was no controversy at the time, they would establish maritime boundaries between the two countries in 2012 to prevent any potential conflicts in the future.
