Government declares treaty with Chile invalid

24-Jun-2012

On 14 June 2012, President Evo Morales declared the Treaty of 1904 between Bolivia and Chile to be invalid. The treaty, which formally established peace between the two countries 20 years after the end of the Pacific War, granted Chile sovereignty over the Litoral Province, while Bolivia maintains duty-free use of its ports. The Bolivian government has accused Chile of failing to live up to its obligations.
