Government admits need for gas imports

On 24 April 2012, the government announced a potential need to import natural gas during an abnormally harsh rainy season. German Castor, Director of the Commission for the Regulation of Energy and Gas (CREG), testified before the Senate’s sixth committee that the CREG is ready to study the possibilities for this extended winter, while Mines Minister Mauricio Cardenas Santamaria denied that winter weather contributes to recent gas price hikes across the country.
