Extension to TIPNIS consultation law approved

On 9 May 2012, the government approved an extension to Law 222, the Law of Consultation for the Territorio Indígena Parque Nacional Isiboro Sécure (TIPNIS), in response to popular protests to the construction of a highway through the area. The new amendment extends the consultation period, which began on 10 May 2012, from 120 days to 210 days, allowing more time for residents to object to the project.
