On 12 July 2012, the Energy and Mining Ministry inaugurated the country’s first industrial solar plant in Calama in the northern Atacama. Codelco and Chuquicamata, as well as Spanish multinational company Solarpack, jointly constructed the plant. The project cost US$4 million and will generate one Megawatt of installed power.
