Commission formed to investigate tax exemptions
On 31 January 2013, President Porfirio Lobo announced the formation of a commission of 14 representatives from the public and private sectors charged with investigating the country’s tax exemptions and exonerations. According to President Lobo, Honduras has granted extensive benefits to businesses and private institutions with little gain to the state. After a 60-day period in which exonerations and exemptions remain suspended, the commission is scheduled to propose a budget and initial recommendations.
