On 21 June 2012, the Navy (Semar) arrested a man believed to be Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar, son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, leader of the Sinaloa cartel. However, on 22 June 2012, the suspect’s mother held a press conference claiming that he had been misidentified, and is actually her son Félix Beltrán León. The Attorney General’s Office is investigating the case to determine if he is Guzmán Salazar, who holds no criminal record in Mexico, but has drug trafficking charges against him in Chicago.
