Ambush on police leaves fourteen dead in Veracruz, Mexico

Authorities reported fourteen dead after a gun battle with police officers and military in Veracruz, Mexico on 5 December 2016 (Milenio). A group of armed suspected criminals ambushed Veracruz state police officers near the Suchilapan Bridge in the municipality of Jesús Carranza. Officers called for military back up and the ensuing shootout left fourteen of the suspected criminals dead, while an unknown number fled into the mountains. Police recovered a number of weapons at the scene, including at least twelve AK-47s and a .50 caliber Barrett rifle, capable of piercing armored vehicles (El Universal and Milenio).
