Venezuelan high court prohibits events that violate public order

Venezuela's Tribunal Supremo de Justicia (TSJ) issued a ruling on 15 November 2016 to prohibit convening or holding events that violate the public order. The sentence bans instigating actions against public authorities and carrying out other actions that violate constitutional rights and the legal system in general (Panorama). Jesús Torrealba, leader of the opposition coalition Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD), denounced that with this sentence, the TSJ seeks to criminalize citizen protests (La Patilla).
