Tabasco councilman kidnapped in Puerto Vallerta

The Attorney General of the Mexican state of Tabasco reported Villahermosa Councilman Laires Carrera Pérez was abducted in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco on 10 November 2016, while attending a conference on law in the area (Informador and Aristegui). Pérez was with his family when his vehicle was stopped by a truck Puerto Vallarta’s main avenue, and he was abducted by men. Carrera Pérez’s wife reported the kidnappers appeared unarmed and authorities stated the abductors have not made any attempts at communication or demands for ransom (Aristegui and Informador). Carrera Pérez was indicted in 2014 for theft of government property in Tabasco but later exonerated (Informador).
