Presidential candidate Moreno assures Ecuadorans he will lead if elected, not Correa

Ruling party presidential candidate Lenin Moreno made it clear on 6 October 2016 he would be governing Ecuador himself if elected, and would not be leading under the direction of current President Rafael Correa (La Hora). Moreno’s statements pushed back against opposition comments which raise the specter of Correa continuing to run the country after his term ends (La Hora). Moreno further assured voters his unhurried and calm temperament should not be misinterpreted to mean he is incapable of making decisions (El Telégrafo).
