Conindustria: Venezuelan industries working at 35 percent capacity

President of the Confederación Venezolana de Industrias (Conindustria) Juan Pablo Olalquiaga stated on 19 October 2016 that Venezuelan industries are working at average of 35.2 percent capacity, a historic low. Olalquiaga noted this statistic demonstrates the Venezuelan industrial sector's inability to satisfy consumers' needs (El Nacional). According to the latest survey from Conindustria, industrial leaders reported that employment fell by 46.9 percent, as work shifts have been cut and qualified Venezuelan workers have left the country (La Patilla). Conindustria also reported the number of industrial firms in Venezuela fell from 12,700 companies in 1997 to 4,000 in 2016 (El Nacional).
