Mexican federal judge orders arrest of Veracruz governor

The Attorney General of the Republic (PRG) in Mexico announced it obtained a warrant from a federal judge on 18 October 2016 for the arrest of embattled Veracruz Governor Javier Duarte (El Universal and 24-Hora). Duarte, who asked to be relieved from office on 13 October 2016, is now wanted on charges of organized crime and operations with illegal proceeds (El Universal and 24-Horas). Veracruz Governor-elect Miguel Ángel Yunes Linares claimed Duarte had fled by a helicopter on 15 October 2016 and his whereabouts were currently unknown (Proceso).
