4.6 million Colombians escaping poverty

As a part of the International Poverty Eradication day, 17 October, an announcement was made that 4.6 million Colombians have risen out of poverty. Over the course of Juan Manuel Santos's six years of presidency, the percentage of Colombia's population living in poverty has dropped from 37.2 percent to 27.8 percent (RCN). Of the 13 million still living in poverty, 8.7 million reside in urban zones, while 4.3 million dwell in rural areas. Colombia has been able to reduce poverty by implementing a multitude of social programs, including the "More Families in Action" and food security programs (Portafolio).
