Southern Pulse will grow this Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) only as network members and other interested parties submit questions concerning the nature of this project, our intentions, and how it will work. If the answer to your question is not yet herein, please send an email to info@southernpulse.com with your question. We will answer you as soon as possible, and, if appropriate, your question will appear here.
1. Why should I become a Southern Pulse member?
As a member, you can search the database, add more information to what others have posted, and in the first stage of this project, participate in a gathering of informed individuals to obtain human intelligence, discover other points of view, or learn of important news before the media reports it.
Because we are focused not on opinion and not on repeating what is in the papers but specifically on what members have heard in conversation, or overheard as rumor, or simply state as conjecture, the Southern Pulse network is able to gather information that while not necessarily taken as fact, presents itself as intelligence worth considering and investigating. Those who work in intelligence know that with one source, a piece of information cannot be taken seriously. Two sources are better, three even more, and so on.
Imagine a network where one Southern Pulse member places information in the system that within hours is corroborated by ten other members who neither know one another nor know of each other’s agenda or political point of view. Instant corroboration.
Eventually, as the network grows, we hope that Southern Pulse, as a project, will turn into a workable model for intelligence sharing between well connected and intellectually stimulated individuals who share information with the network because they know the more they share, the more they receive. How this information is ultimately used is the private matter of each member, not the purview of the Southern Pulse network at this stage of the project.
2. Who or what is the Southern Pulse network?
The network, as we envision it, will be made up of individuals who have extended experience in the realms of international affairs, specifically in politics, security, and energy. Our regional focus will initially be Latin America.
At the core of the Southern Pulse concept is our database, where members can log in to upload short messages or other short texts of information made available to other members, who may then add their own information. Identity will remain anonymous unless members choose to make their profile viewable for other members, but not the general public.
3. When will the database be ready?
Southern Pulse will begin beta testing in the near future. We are now more focused on gathering a qualified number of individuals to help us populate and test the database.
4. How is Southern Pulse connected to the Security in Latin America newsletter?
The initial process is slow as we are working mainly with those who have previously signed up for the Security in Latin America newsletter, currently operated by one of our members. We feel the subscription base for this newsletter represents an ideal anchor upon which we may begin building our network.
In the coming weeks, the Security in Latin America newsletter will be merged with the Southern Pulse newsletter, so we wanted to give those readers the first opportunity to join the Southern Pulse network.
